Sitting 92: Caring for the body
Beloved brother we would welcome you tonight to our gathering so that we may proceed with our instruction.
We would talk of the necessity of the body to be kept in a reasonable condition so that you may complete your span of life. We do not advocate that you treat your body as a temple which must not be violated by the modern drugs which you may be prescribed by your doctors etc. These drugs are there so that you may ease your pain or relieve you from the symptoms of the various dis-eases which can afflict the physical body. There are some which actually cure the body instead of masking the symptoms as so many of them do. These drugs are there to be used and they should, in our opinion, be used in moderation for such relief as they will give you.
You do, after all, use the fruits of the earth to sustain your body and the fruits of the loom to clothe yourself so why can you not use the chemicals to make your life more comfortable or to help your body to recover from the various afflictions which assail you from time to time.
We understand that there are many drugs which cause side effects and we must leave it up to you whether or not you use them or not use them and suffer the ailment which afflicts you.
We would point out that from the minute you are born you breathe air which has impurities in it and there are times when mother’s milk has impurities in it and you live your life and at the end of it you leave your body behind.
Why then, we ask, do you allow yourself to suffer pain and discomfort of something which you are going to discard when the sensible use of the things which will relieve you is only going to make your life easier.
The body is a spacesuit which allows you to live on the physical plane. Look after it, use it wisely, and use it as you would any other suit of clothes.
